Sandvik 2R68/2R68HV Seamless tube and pipe
Categories: Metal; Ferrous Metal; Austenitic; Stainless Steel

Material Notes: Sandvik 2R68 is a molybdenum alloyed austenitic chromium-nickel steel. It is characterized by low contents of manganese, sulphur, carbon and nitrogen. This results in a very clean steel with a low content of non-metallic inclusions. The grade is especially developed for a application where very high demands are set upon allowed limits of contamination from the stainless steel material. Typical examples are applications found within the semiconductor and pharmaceutical industries.

The steel is available in two forms: Sandvik 2R68, produced by conventional AOD technique, and Sandvik 2R68HV, further optimized by vacuum arc remelting (VAR) of the AOD material. The VAR treatment reduces the content of oxide inclusions, thereby obtaining further cleanliness. Otherwise the two grades generally have similar properties.

Electropolishing of the grade produces very even and smooth surfaces, thanks to the very low levels of impurities. The tubes are used in the electropolished condition for high purity gas distribution systems.
