Material Notes: Description: Sillimanite is mineral composed of Aluminum and silicon pentoxide. It was named after the chemist B. Silliman (1779-1824). Sillimanite occurs throughout the world in metamorphosed peri-aluminous sedimentary rocks. Used in the manufacture of refractories and high temperature crucibles. Some varieties used in jewelry.
