BYK Claytone® 409 Rheological Additive
Categories: Ceramic; Clay; Other Engineering Material; Additive/Filler for Polymer

Material Notes: Claytone 409 is a modified Montmorillonite designed for use in systems containing aliphatic solvents and aliphatic-aromatic solvent blends that display low to medium polarity. Claytone 409 generates reproducible viscosity and thixotropic development, a high degree of sag control and prevents particle/pigment settling. Claytone 409 is self-dispersing and does not require a polar activator. Claytone 409 eliminates the need for high shear or pregels. Claytone 409 has proven to be a reliable and reproducible rheological additive for use in frac fluid for suspension of guar and other particles. Claytone 409 has been designed to be approximately the same particle size as most guar products, thus promoting a stable homogeneous dry mixture. Other applications include trade sale paints, varnishes, wood stains, traffic paints, light industrial finishes, industrial maintenance and marine coatings. Claytone 409 is not recommended for use in lubricating greases.

Applications:

  • Frac Fluids
  • Inks
  • Trade Sale Paints
  • Caulks and Sealants
