Master Bond MasterSil 980 Fluorosilicone
Categories: Polymer; Adhesive; Thermoset; Silicone

Material Notes: Key Features:
  • Superior chemical resistance
  • Excellent physical strength
  • Addition cured type system
  • Highly flexible & temperature resistant
Product Description: Master Bond MasterSil 980 is a two component fluorosilicone for bonding, sealing, coating and encapsulating. Its most outstanding attribute is enhanced chemical resistance particularly to fuels, oils and solvents when compared to conventional silicones. Noteworthy in this regard, is its ability to withstand gasoline, diesel fuel, motor oil, ethanol and many other alcohols, among others. (A more detailed description is presented in the chart below.) MasterSil 980 is an addition cured system that does not require air or humidity for curing. The mix ratio is 100 to 10 by weight and after mixing it is a moderate viscosity liquid with good flow. Its open time is certainly user friendly; 6-9 hours at room temperature for a 50 gram mass. The cure schedule is 30-60 minutes at 260-300°F or 75-90 minutes at 200-250°F. MasterSil 980 is a superior bonding agent and it adheres well to many substrates including metals, composites, ceramics, glass as well as many rubbers and plastics. MasterSil 980 can withstand the most aggressive types of thermal cycling as well as mechanical and thermal shock. After curing, MasterSil 980 is a good electrical insulator and can be used for potting and encapsulation. It can be used as a formed-in-place gasketing material. Also, this product bonds well to other silicone substrates. The system is 100% solids and contains no solvents or diluents. The color of Part A is red and Part B is white. The service temperature range is -85°F to +465°F. In summary, MasterSil 980 retains silicone type flexibility and temperature resistance; along with significantly raising the level of chemical resistance. MasterSil 980 is a good candidate for applications in the aerospace, electronic, specialty OEM and chemical processing industries, among others, where the silicone product property profile along with enhanced chemical resistance is desirable.

Product Advantages:

  • Convenient working life after mixing
  • Good flow properties
  • Excellent adhesive
  • Cures well in deep and wide sections
  • Best chemical resistance for a silicone based system
