Evonik Cyclooctene
Categories: Fluid

Material Notes: CAS No: 931-87-3

The singly unsaturated cyclic hydrocarbon cyclooctene (COE) is a colorless liquid.

  • The main application of COE is the metathesis polymerization yielding polyoctenamer (VESTENAMER®). This semicrystalline rubber is used in the rubber industry in the manufacture of tires, profiles, tubes, all kinds of molded rubber articles, roller coatings and calendered articles.
  • Ozonolysis of COE and the oxidative degradation in nitric acid yield suberic acid.
  • Various perfumes are obtained via a number o intermediate stages.
  • Thermolysis of COE yields the Evonik product 1,7-octadine
  • Coe is an excellent starting material for the synthesis of 8-ring-shapes derivatives like CDEN.
