Wacker Geniosil® GF 92 Silane
Categories: Fluid; Other Engineering Material; Additive/Filler for Polymer

Material Notes: Empirical formula: C12H27NO3Si

CAS No.: 3068-78-8

In addition to its application as an adhesion promoter in formulations and primers, GENIOSIL® GF 92 binds via its aminoalkyl group to electrophilic groups in resins and polymers. Aside from groups such as epoxides and esters, it is particularly the isocyanate groups present in polyurethanes that are important here.

Special features: Due to the nature of the amino group, this substance reacts as a strong base. The silane hydrolyzes autocatalytically in the presence of moisture (methanol is released) to form silanols, which can subsequently react with themselves to produce siloxanes or can bind to inorganic substrates. It is a clear, colorless to light yellow liquid with a characteristic amine odor.

Application: GENIOSIL® GF 92 is used mainly as an adhesion promoter in sealants, adhesives and coatings, as a surface modifier for fillers and for production of silane modified polymers as binder in sealants and adhesives.
