DuPont Mobility and Materials VTR 8525 (GBLT-S) GFLT-600 Formulation  (discontinued **)
Categories: Polymer; Thermoset; Fluoropolymer, TS; Thermoset Fluoroelastomer; Rubber or Thermoset Elastomer (TSE)

Material Notes: VTR-8525 is a 66% fluorine peroxide cured polymer that utilizes DuPont Dow's Advanced Polymer Architecture technology to create a seal offering for fuel systems. VTR-8525, which will become Viton® GBLT-S once it is fully commercial, has the following attributes:
  • VTR-8525 is a one polymer alternative to GLT and GFLT for fuel seals and fuel injector O-rings
    • Better low temperature sealing than GFLT...–40°C and below
    • Better fuel/alcohol/methanol resistance than GLT
    • Current GFLT and GLT auto specs could be combined into one specification
  • VTR-8525 derives additional benefits from new Advanced Polymer Architecture technology
    • Physical modulus is low, elongation is high - parts are easier to stretch, more tear resistant in automated assembly equipment
    • Cures exceptionally fast to a high state of cure
    • Shows improved mold release/mold fouling properties compared to GLT and GFLT
    • Shows excellent compression set resistance with little (2 hr at 232°C) or no postcure

It is recommended to use at least 70% load factor in an internal mixer. The recommended process aid for VTR-8525 is 0.5 phr of Armeen® 18D. A two part process aid system of Armeen® 18D with Strucktol WS 280 at 0.8 phr each is optimal if that level of process aid can be tolerated in mold shrinkage. The use of Diak™ #8 is NOT recommended as it causes poor mold release and high compression set.
