Latrobe Knocor™ Hot Work Tool Steel
Categories: Metal; Ferrous Metal; Alloy Steel; Carbon Steel; High Carbon Steel; Tool Steel; Air-Hardening Steel; Hot Work Steel

Material Notes: Koncor hot work tool steel is an air-hardening, 5% chromium tool steel with increase carbon and vanadium for extra resistance to abrasion and wear. The carbon and vanadium contents of Koncor hot work tool steel give it wear properties which are comparable to those of D2 cold work steel and M2 high speed steel. Yet, Koncor exhibits improved toughness compared to D2 and M2 at equivalent harnesses. Koncor exhibits minimal size change during heat treatment and has a wide permissible hardening range of 1850 - 2150°F (1010 - 1177°C). This permits variations in heat treatment for optimization of properties. Austenitizing at the lower end of the range gives maximum toughness and austenitizing at the upper end of the range gives maximum wear resistance.

Information Provided by Timken Latrobe Steel.

Timken sold Latrobe in December 2006. They are now Latrobe Specialty Steels Co.
