Evonik DRIVERON® S MTBE Liquid
Categories: Fluid; Solvent

Material Notes: CAS No: 1634-04-4

Methyl-tert-butyl ether is a highly flammable, clear, colorless liquid of low viscosity, which has a characteristics terpene-like odor. It is infinitely miscible with all customary hydrocarbons and organic solvents, but has only limited miscibility with water. In accordance with the properties of ether is split by mineral acids to give methanol, iso-Butene and hydrocarbons. Methyl tert.-butyl ether is stable in air and oxygen. A safety factor which should be emphasized is the high ignition temperature (460°C). Unlike other common ether solvents, methyl tert.-butyl ether show excellent oxidative stability, resisting the formation of dangerous peroxides without adding inhibitors. Methyl tert.-butyl ether is classified as highly flammable and as skin irritant.

Application: DRIVERON S acts as solvent for active pharmaceutical ingredients (API), pesticides and insecticides.
