Wacker Silres® 610 Silicone Resin
Categories: Polymer; Thermoset; Silicone

Material Notes: Product description: SILRES® 610 is a solid, methyl group containing silicone resin.

Properties: SILRES® 610 is typically used in heat resistant coatings. It combines outstanding heat resistance and weatherability. With proper coating formulation, thermal stability up to 600°C (1100°F) can be achieved in combination with suitable temperature stable pigments and fillers.

Special features:

  • very high inorganic content
  • soluble in many solvents like aromatic hydrocarbons, ketones, acetates, alcohols
  • limited compatibility (to be used as a sole binder)
  • excellent hydrophobicity of the final coating
  • protects the substrate against corrosion, UV degradation and chemical attacks
  • extraordinary good adhesion to aluminium
Application: SILRES® 610 is suitable for all kinds of heat-resistant paints. It is an excellent choice for (anti-corrosion) coatings on mufflers, exhaust systems, engine parts, boilers, furnaces, ovens and oven inserts, chimneys, barbeques and electric and gas heaters, incinerators. When used as a clear varnish on aluminum surfaces, the permanent service temperature should be limited to about 200°C (390°F). At temperatures above 250°C (480°F) the organic groups of silicone resins start to degrade. After all the organic parts of the silicone resin have been pyrolytically decomposed, the product that remains moves to an inorganic stoichiometric composition of (SiO2)n. It is this layer which firmly binds pigments and fillers to the coated substrate.
