Versalis Extir® LN 7000 Expandable Polystyrene
Categories: Polymer; Thermoplastic; Polystyrene (PS); Expanded Polystyrene (EPS)

Material Notes: Extir LN 7000 belongs to the Leonardo Series, with these features: high expandability, high moulding productivity, wide processing area, optimal fusion and mechanical strenght, excellent item finishing. Extir LN 7000 improves the main features of the traditional A 7000, combined with lower steam consumption. Extir LN 7000 can be used for the production of blocks with low and very low density.

Applications: Extir LN 7000 is a versatile product with good thermal insulation and expandability for use in the construction industry. Typical applications are: • low density block for thermal insulation • void formers, trough formers and culvert formers cut from blocks • boards and profiles for building, to be coupled with plasterboards • blocks or slabs for road foundations and civil construction • blocks for lightening elements in building

It is recommended to keep the product in a dry well ventilated store between 15-20°C. For product packaged in octabins the guaranteed shelf-life is one month; product in steel drums has a six months guaranteed shelf-life. During the processing of Expandable Polystyrene any sparkle or flame must be avoided and smoking should be forbidden. An adequate electrical grounding of machinery and of pneumatic transport lines is recommended. For further information concerning storage, packaging and processing precautions please refer to "Styrenics - Technical data sheets" and to the "Extir Safety Data Sheet". This grade complies by composition with the requirements set by the main regulations for plastics intended for food contact (including the EEC directive 90/128).

Processing: Extir LN 7000 can be easily prefoamed fin a wide density range, from 15 kg/m³ to less than 10 kg/m³ after a second or third expansion. The ageing time before moulding is typical of standard industrial practice; from 6 to 72 hours are recommended depending on the density and ambient conditions. When two expansions are performed, it is advisable to mature beads at least 6-12 hours between the two expansions. During block moulding, Extir LN 7000 can accept without difficulty up to 30 % of scrap material. Moulding is easy, regular and the resulting items satisfy the application needs over a wide range of steaming conditions. Fusion is excellent even if very low steam pressures are used, so allowing energy savings.
