C.O.I.M. FILCO® 658 N Non Ionic Aqueous Emulsion of Unsaturated Polyester Polymer
Categories: Other Engineering Material; Additive/Filler for Polymer; Polymer; Thermoplastic

Material Notes: Description: Non Ionic Aqueous Emulsion of Unsaturated Polyester Polymer
General Information: COIM has developed a range of polyesters for the treatment of glass fiber. These polyesters come in powder and emulsion form and are collectively known as FILCO®. The products in the FILCO® line serve to size glass fiber, to optimize the mechanical characteristics of the fiber, or to bind the fibers for the production of mat.
Applications: Filco 658 N has been studied as an insoluble binder for glass fiber. Particularly for chopped strand mat, continuous strand mat and perform.
It is also suggested as a film forming component of glass fiber sizing for SMC, BMC, and DMC.
When Filco 658 N is used as an insoluble liquid binder benzoyl peroxide must be added (0.6 - 1.2% of active peroxide on Filco 658 N). Temperatures between 160°C and 190°C for 40 - 60 seconds are recommended for the binder cross link in the dryers during the mat production process.
When Filco 658 N is used as a film former in glass fiber sizing formulations for SMC, BMC, and DMC no benzoyl peroxide should be added.
In both applications the resulting products make thermosetting glass/resin composites having good physical and mechanical properties.
