| Description: LAPONITE S is a synthetic layered fluorosilicate incorporating an inorganic polyphosphate peptiser. It hydrates and swells in water to give virtually clear and colorless colloidal dispersions of low viscosity known as sols. At 10% concentration in water these will remain free flowing for a minimum of 7 days. On addition of small quantities of electrolyte highly thixotropic gels are formed rapidly. Application: LAPONITE S may be utilized as a predispersed liquid concentrate and added to formulated products as required. It is used to impart a shear sensitive structure to a wide range of waterborne formulations including surface coatings and cleansers. LAPONITE S may be coated onto paper or other surfaces from concentrated sols to give smooth, coherent, and electrically conductive films. Information provided by Southern Clay Products |
