Cabot ENERSILĀ® 2030 Silica Additive
Categories: Other Engineering Material; Additive/Filler for Polymer

Material Notes: Fumed silica additive for lead acid batteries
ENERSIL 2030 silica additive is suitable for use in hybrid Absorbent Glass Mat (AGM)-gel battery electrolytes. As an electrolyte additive, it can significantly reduce acid stratification, enable extended battery cycle life, improve cell-to-cell consistency and reduce battery pack maintenance. ENERSIL 2030 silica additive can also improve low temperature performance and cycle life in lead battery applications that require deep discharge. ENERSIL 2030 silica additive is designed specifically for use in lead battery applications. Each production lot is tested for dispersion stability characteristics to confirm quality consistency. ENERSIL 2030 silica additive maintains good dispersibility and stability in dispersions used in the production of hybrid AGM-gel batteries. ENERSIL 2030 silica additive is typically added to sulfuric acid electrolyte either by direct mixing or by preparing a 10 - 20 wt. % dispersion in water with or without dispersion stabilizers. Because of its unique morphology, ENERSIL 2030 silica additive is easier to disperse compared to other silica products and its dispersion viscosity remains stable during the battery filling process, providing uniformity of the gel distribution between the battery plates. ENERSIL 2030 silica additive is also suitable for use in gel lead batteries in various industrial and energy storage systems applications used in combination with solar and wind renewable energy sources. The key benefit of this product for these applications is its ability to provide excellent gel strength at lower silica loadings in the electrolyte versus other silica additives. Depending on the silica dispersion method and customer preference, ENERSIL 2030 silica additive can be provided either in fluffy or densed form.
