Cabot MONARCH® 280 Specialty Carbon Black
Categories: Other Engineering Material; Additive/Filler for Polymer

Material Notes: Product highlights: MONARCH 280 specialty carbon black is a general-purpose carbon black suitable for a variety of tinting, coloring and UV applications.

Key applications: MONARCH 280 specialty carbon black is suitable for use in printing inks, plastics and a variety of other applications including concrete and cement and general dispersions.
Printing inks: MONARCH 280 specialty carbon black is a high structure general purpose product that is broadly applicable in a variety of inks. It is particularly suitable for lithographic and gravure printing where a matte finish is required. This specialty carbon black offers very blue undertone and excellent dispersability.
Plastics: MONARCH 280 specialty carbon black is an effective opacifying agent for extruded films and is also widely used in UV applications such as utility pipe and agricultural film. In addition, it delivers good jetness and bluetone in a variety of general-purpose molded plastics parts.
Coatings: MONARCH 280 specialty carbon black is suitable for underbody/underhood automotive coatings as well as general industrial coatings where high jetness is not required. It is also suitable for use as a tinting black.
Other applications: This product is also used in concrete and cement, general dispersions and paper applications. MONARCH 280 specialty carbon black offers ease of dispersion and delivers good color, UV, and tinting performance. Its high structure, combined with low surface area, makes it one of the easiest to disperse Cabot specialty carbon blacks. However, the quality of the dispersion is affected by equipment choice and formulation. A product with similar morphology, BLACK PEARLS® 280 specialty carbon black, is available in an easier to handle pelleted form.
