Cabot BLACK PEARLS® 900 Specialty carbon black
Categories: Other Engineering Material; Additive/Filler for Polymer

Material Notes: Product highlights: BLACK PEARLS 900 specialty carbon black offers the highest level of jetness available within Cabot’s specialty carbon black portfolio for plastics applications. It can enable masterbatch and compound producers to meet increasingly stringent requirements for deep black color in visible molded parts in automotive and electronics applications.

Key applications: BLACK PEARLS 900 specialty carbon black can deliver high jetness in conjunction with good blue undertone. As a result, it is often used in highly demanding applications where OEMs require very deep black color in plastic molded parts. Applications are primarily:

  • Consumer electronics
  • Automotive interiors
  • Home appliances
BLACK PEARLS 900 specialty carbon black is typically used in ABS, PC blends, PP, and TPOs for aesthetic applications. Because of its dispersion characteristics, it is typically incorporated into a compound via masterbatch. To achieve optimal performance levels with this product, incorporation into a masterbatch requires relatively sophisticated, high shear processing conditions. BLACK PEARLS 900 specialty carbon black is a pelletized product. A non-pelletized carbon black having similar morphology is available in an easier-to-disperse fluffy form as MONARCH 900 specialty carbon black, which can also be used in coatings and artificial leather applications.

Performance features:

  • Highest level of jetness performance within Cabot’s portfolio of carbon blacks for plastic applications
  • Good blue undertone performance
