Refractory Metals

Niobium, Nb (Columbium, Cb); Annealed Sample
Categories: Metal; Nonferrous Metal; Niobium Alloy; Refractory Metal; Pure Element

Material Notes: Annealed applies only to tensile and/or hardness values; other property values are typical of the element. The name niobium is used by chemists but the element is often called columbium by American metallurgists.

Fabrication: good formability, work hardens slowly, cannot be soldered. Joining requires adhesives, rivets, nuts and bolts, or capacitive discharge welding.

Applications: used in aerospace applications (i.e. rocket boosters), sodium vapor lamps, and superconductors.

Vendors: PLANSEE SE: Whether it's high temperatures, aggressive chemicals or extreme mechanical loading: PLANSEE supplies a suitable product solution in refractory metals or composite materials. As the world market leader in powder metallurgically produced high performance materials we combine outstanding materials knowledge with profound applications and technology know-how.
