Empirical formula: C4H6O2 CAS No.: 108-05-4 Product description: WACKER® Vinyl Acetate Monomer stab. (VAM) is an unsaturated vinyl ester stabilized by hydroquinone. VAM is a monomer solely used to manufacture polyvinyl acetate and vinyl acetate copolymers. Properties: VAM is a liquid smelling of ester, colorless and highly flammable. The solubility in water is poor. However, VAM is hydrolyzed in water. Special features: Usually VAM is stabilized with 4 ± 1 ppm hydroquinone if delivered inland and with 12 ± 2 ppm abroad. Hydroquinone is added to prevent polymerization during shipment and storage. Processing is not impaired in any way as a result. Application: VAM is a monomer used to manufacture polyvinyl acetate and vinyl acetate copolymers. Usual co-monomers are e.g. acrylates, ethylene, fumarates, maleinates, vinyl chloride, vinyl laurate and vinyl tert-decanoate (VeoVa). These polymers are market in different delivery forms as dispersions / emulsions, dispersible polymer powders, solid resins or solutions. Vinyl acetate (co)polymers are used in many industrial and consumer products as well as are the base for other polymers - Additive e.g. for coatings, diesel fuel
- Binder e.g. for
- (low VOC waterborne) Adhesives
- Coatings for food packaging
- Concrete
- Exterior thermal insulation composite systems
- Filler
- (repair) Mortar
- Engineered fabrics / non-woven
- Personal care products such as hair spray
- (low VOC) Emulsion / dispersion paints
- Paper finishing
- Plasters / renders
- Sealing slurries
- Self leveling mortars and screeds
- Textile finishing agents
- Tile adhesives
- Fiber
- Film
- Masticatory polymer e.g. for chewing gum (base)
- Modifier for plastics e.g. low profile additive for mouldings
- Raw material for other (co)polymers
