| The TVs in our living rooms have changed enormously in recent years: bigger and bigger, flatter and flatter, and additionally sharper and sharper colours. Behind this innovation lies not only a new technology, but also newly developed materials. Blue pigments is a key component in colour liquid crystal display (LCD) screens. An LCD screen is in fact made up of little cells known as pixels. Each cell contains blue, red and green pigments, which act as filters: the energy passing through them combines with them to create millions of different colours. These pigments need to be ultrapure, very fine, evenly over the screen surface. A better quality pigment gives a picture brilliant and more luminous, but also higher definition.
