ASTM A285, Grade B
Categories: Metal; Ferrous Metal; ASTM Steel; Carbon Steel; Low Carbon Steel; Nonresulfurized Steel; Pressure Vessel Steel

Material Notes: This specification covers low and intermediate tensile strength carbon steel plates produced as killed, semi-killed, capped, or rimmed steel. These plates are intended for fusion-welded pressure vessels. The maximum plate thickness under ASTM A285, for reasons of internal soundness, is 2 in. [50 mm] for all grades. For killed carbon steels only refer to the following ASTM specifications:

A299/A299M Manganese-silicon carbon steel pressure vessel plates.
A515/A515M Carbon steel pressure vessel plates for intermediate and high temperature service.
A516/A 516M Carbon steel pressure vessel plates for moderate and low temperature service.

For plates produced from coil, additional requirements, including additional testing and reporting of test results, of ASTM A20/A20M apply.

Key Words: Nonresulfurized steel, pressure vessel plate, SA285
