Thermal Ceramics Kao-Seal
Categories: Ceramic

Material Notes: Refractory Castable Sealant: Kao-Seal is a water-based spray or brush sealant coating for both dense and lightweight castable refractory linings. This sealant retards alkali hydrolysis by developing an airtight interface membrane on the castable surface.

Kao-Seal is ready to use. Do not thin unless absolutely needed for applying. Typical coverage is 250 sf/gal. of full strength.

Ceramic Fiber Dust Suppressant: Kao-Seal is also a water-based spray sealant/dust suppressant for ceramic fiber products. This material reduces the tendency for fibers to become airborne before, during, or after a ceramic fiber product is handled or cut. Kao-Seal can effectively reduce dusting and airborne fibers during installation and during tear-out. This material does burn out at low temperatures, so it will need to be re-applied after exposure to heat (212°F).

Kao-Seal can be diluted for this application (up to 25% Kao-Seal to 75% water). Before using, mix by stirring or shaking. When stirring do not use sticks or paddles which could splinter or otherwise contaminate the product.

Adhesive: Kao-Seal is also a water-based adhesive which can be brushed or sprayed to adhere ceramic fiber products to a variety of surfaces including another ceramic product, a carbon steel furnace shell, stainless or aluminum foils, and textile products. Kao-Seal becomes ineffective after exposure to temperatures in excess of 212°F. As an adhesive, it is intended to be a process aid and help hold material in place until a mechanical closure or seal can be applied or other higher temperature adhesives can be applied.
